The Honda City Hatchback is the Japanese brand's newest entry into the segment. Just like the City, it is based on it carries the same engine and transmission options as well as the same chassis. For the Philippine market, the City Hatchback is made available with only one variant which is the RS. Buyers can opt among four colors, namely Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Ignite Red Metallic, Brilliant Sporty Blue, and Platinum White Pearl which would require interested customers to shell out a few extra bucks. Like its sedan counterpart, the Honda City Hatchback is also powerded by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, however, it can only be paired with a Continiously Variable Transmission (CVT).

The all-new Honda City hatchback was launched in the Philippine market last April 21, 2021, with only one RS variant available.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
For its current generation, the Honda City Hatchback utilizes the Honda Global Small Car Platform. It carries over its predecessor’s unibody and suspension layout coming with MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam setup at the rear. Honda states that it has tuned the suspension to be more comfortable in order to make the sedan easier to drive. The Honda City’s stopping power comes from ventilated discs at the front and drum brakes at the rear for all variants. For its parking brake, Honda has chosen to retain the hand brake in the previous model. When it comes to steering the Honda City comes with an electric-assist rack and pinion system along with an electric power steering system.
The Honda City Hatchback comes with 16x6J wheels as well but in a special RS design, however, the main difference is that the City features Aluminum Alloy is the metal of choice for all the wheels available with the Honda City. The spare tire comes in the form of a space saver type to help reduce the weight of the vehicle.

Similar to the City sedan, the Honda City Hatchback has the same chassis and platform as its more popular body style. It drives the same and it handles the same way, which means that engine performance is nice and responsive also thanks in part to the CVT that keeps the engine in its optimal powerband. With its beefier midrange power, the City feels slightly faster than the old because of more usable power. With a MacPherson strut in the front and a torsion beam in the rear, it offers a good base that allows it to handle quite well. It takes corners well and it accelerates out of them with decent haste. The City Hatch also features decent NVH which makes for a fairly quiet ride.
Technology Features
The Honda City Hatchback in the Philippines comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen audio infotainment system, that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with Weblink. Bluetooth and USB connectivity are also present with the hatchback. Audio and hands-free telephone (HFT) with voice recognition is also available for the sole RS model. An 8-speaker sound system is present in the hatchback which comes in the form of a 4-speaker and 4-tweeter layout.
The RS model also comes with an automatic air conditioning system that comes with rotary knobs and a digital display. Rear ventilation is also available for better cooling access to the occupants at the back. For indicators, the Honda City Hatchback comes with a tachometer, speedometer, fuel level, fuel consumption mete, trip meter, range computer, temperature, and illumination control.
The hatchback also comes with cruise control and a multi-view camera as standard. A one-push start system is present in the vehicle along with Smart entry. To help with charging mobile devices, the Honda City Hatchback also comes with two 12-volt sockets located towards the front of the vehicle.
Exterior
The Honda City Hatchback has only one variant. It shares the RS badge with its top-of-the-line sedan counterpart. Since it is an RS variant, the city gets LED headlights that flank a glossy grille with an RS emblem applied. The City also has LED DRLs and fog lamps in the front. The front fascia looks similar to the Honda Accord, featuring slimmed-down headlights and a very mature look going on. The side is more elongated compared to the previous generation of Honda City. The 4th generation Honda City featured a more wedge-like shape down the side while the 5th generation has a flatter and more streamlined look. Towards the rear of the City, you will find that the hatchback is low-slung and is not as bulky as other hatches, with the C-pillar of the vehicle joining the roof at an acute angle. You also get a spoiler at the back, and also a different diffuser that is beefier and more robust than the one one the sedan. The taillights are also combination LED, and unlike the sedan, you get a rear wiper.
Interior
The Honda City Hatchback in the Philippines comes only comes with one color scheme available for the interior. As it only comes in the RS model, the cabin comes in black with red accent trims found throughout the interior. The door handles inside the vehicle are chrome similar to that of its sedan counterpart. Leather and suede are the go-to choices for seating material for the Honda City Hatchback. A height adjuster is present in the RS model along with a fabric seatback pocket located behind the front passenger seat. A leather armrest is available with the vehicle along with rear center console cup holders. A leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel are also found with the vehicle to match its more premium look and feel. For ease of use, the Honda City Hatchback comes with tilt and telescopic steering adjustment functionality.
Safety
When it comes to safety the Honda City Hatchback in the Philippines comes well equipped. The vehicle comes with a driver, front passenger, side, and curtain airbags as standard. It also features a G-CON body structure to help protect its occupants in the event of a crash along with, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, ABS with EBD, and emergency stop signal. As standard, the Honda City Hatchback comes with 3-point ELR seatbelts for all occupants along with a seatbelt reminder for the driver and front passenger. Other safety features for the vehicle include, power door locks with speed-sensing with auto-lock, a child lock protection system, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a knee bolster for the driver and a security alarm with an immobilizer system.

I am disappointed that Honda do not offer more options even on their smaller models. In the UK, where I purchased many new cars from Honda (6), Toyota (6) and Vauxhall (GM) (7) there were always options on all models (including the smallest ones) to include luxury options such as auto-folding door mirrors, auto windshield wipers, auto headlights (including auto-dipping), auto-dipping interior mirror, electric seats, etc.
It seems that manufacturers believe that Philippino people do not want, or cannot afford these things! I suggest you update your market research, because I would gladly have paid a few thousand pesos extra to have them on my new City Hatch! And you don't even offer a retro-fit option! I would be prepared to bet that the wiring for these 'extras' is already included in the loom which was fitted at the factory. Come on, Honda, live up to your reputation for quality and excellence!

I am disappointed that Honda do not offer more options even on their smaller models.
