- Launch
-
Hyundai presented the IONIQ 6 during the 2023 Manila International Auto Show, a few months after it officially launched the IONIQ 5 crossover for the Philippines. At the time, Hyundai kept the specs and pricing for the EV a close-kept secret, however, the brand said during the unveiling that the IONIQ 6 will be priced around the P4,000,000 mark.
In June 2023, two months after its first physical appearance in the country, Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. revealed the full specs and price of the IONIQ 6 EV for the Philippine market. Reservations for the EV opened on June 26, 2023, with a price tag of P3,798,000 for the lone GLS 2WD Long Range variant.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
The IONIQ 6 EV is built on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform or E-GMP. The E-GMP is a dedicated battery electric vehicle platform for Hyundai Motor Group automobiles. The IONIQ 6 shares this platform and underpinnings with the IONIQ 5 crossover and the Kia EV6. Here in the Philippines, the IONIQ 6 is offered in a single variant, the GLS 2WD Long Range.
The IONIQ 6 we get here is powered by a robust powertrain consisting of a single permanent magnetic synchronous motor that propels the rear wheels, delivering an impressive 226 hp and a formidable torque of 350 Nm. To sustain this power, the vehicle relies on a 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which provides an estimated cruising range of 545 km for the electric vehicle. If needed, the IONIQ 6 offers the convenience of DC fast charging, enabling rapid recharging from ten percent to 80 percent in a mere 18 minutes.

Designed to be sleek and futuristic, the IONIQ 6 perfectly embodies the expectation most people have about the car of the future. An interesting tidbit about the design however is that it takes an unexpected inspiration from the captivating styles of the 1920s and 1930s, as disclosed by Hyundai's Vice President of Styling, SangYup Lee. Drawing upon iconic design elements from that era, the IONIQ 6 showcases a unique fusion of past and present.
This luxurious electric vehicle features fluid and harmonious bodywork, complemented by its low and wide stance. Sculpted curves adorn its sides, gracefully flowing towards the rear. At the back, the taillights form a continuous bar of radiant lights that spans the entire width of the vehicle. Adding to the distinctive rear styling, a secondary light bar is positioned higher up, seamlessly integrated into the car's ducktail spoiler, situated just below the rear windscreen.
The design of the IONIQ 6 finds inspiration in several influential vehicles, including the Stout Scarab, Phantom Corsair, Tatra 87, Saab 92, and Douglas C-47 Skytrain. These iconic automobiles share a common thread of streamlined design, which Hyundai recognized as the optimal approach for maximizing the IONIQ 6's range through enhanced aerodynamics. Here in the Philippines, the IONIQ 6 is equipped with large 20-inch alloy wheels which feature Hyundai’s new geometric wheel design bespoke for its IONIQ line.
- Interior
-
Complementing its visually striking exterior, the interior of the IONIQ 6 is equally impressive. A sweeping, curved display seamlessly integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment screen, creating a captivating visual centerpiece.
To optimize space within the cabin, the Ioniq 6 features an electronic gear selector mounted on the steering column, freeing up valuable room in the center console. This thoughtful design choice contributes to a more open and uncluttered environment for the driver and passengers.
In addition to its cutting-edge technology and captivating design, the Ioniq 6 comes equipped with a Graphical User Interface (GUI), incorporating interactive LED lighting themes that can be personalized to create unique and engaging journeys for both the driver and passengers. Furthermore, an integrated Head-Up Display (HUD) is consolidated into the windshield, allowing adjustment according to the driver's height and driving position. To eliminate blind spots, four wide-angle cameras are strategically positioned at the front, back, and sides, capturing every angle comprehensively.
- Safety
-
Hyundai has equipped the IONIQ 6 with its latest array of safety features. For starters, the IONIQ 6 has dual SRS airbags and side airbags up front along with upper and lower curtain airbags for the rear passengers.
