Lexus UX Overview
The 2019 UX is Lexus' first entry in the subcompact crossover segment in the Philippine market. It is the smallest SUV in the current lineup from the Japanese automaker, with bold, striking design and performance to accommodate the demands of the urban lifestyle. Upfront is a large 'Spindle Grille' that occupies two-thirds of the fascia. This is complemented by a set of lighting-shaped headlamps, as well as vertical air vents on the bumper. However, these aren't the major highlights of its physical aspect. Rather, Lexus boasts about the seamless continuity of the exterior and interior design that's observable on the hood's creases, which Lexus claims to optically extend pass through the windshield and into the interior. The interior, on the other hand, follows the Takumi craftsmanship for superior quality. The UX is also the first Lexus to incorporate a trim grain finish inspired by the grain on the 'washi' Japanese paper. There are eight cabin colors to choose from for that added touch of personalization. Under the hood is Lexus' new 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 168-hp and 205-Nm-torque output. It is coupled to a Direct-Shift Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) that transmits power to the front axles. The performance output is supported by the vehicle's aerodynamically-structured body elements such as the Aero Stabilizing Blade Lights, wheel arch moldings, and World First concept aerodynamic wheels.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
The Lexus UX shares the same chassis as the Toyota CH-R, and it slots into the subcompact crossover segment of the premium market. The crossover is built on a unibody chassis that comes with a fully-independent suspension with a MacPherson strut in the front and a trailing wishbone in the rear. The UX is extremely compact measuring 4,495 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, 1,520 mm tall, and on a wheelbase of 2,640 mm. The UX will also get up to 18-inch wheels for both the F Sport and standard variant.
Powering the UX is a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine that produces 168 hp and 205 Nm. As for its performance, the engine gets up to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and it can get up to a maximum speed of 190 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.2 L/100km by Lexus.

- Exterior
-
The UX is dressed and clad in Lexus' new design language which is an evolution from the designs of the UX's larger siblings. The model can either come with a standard grille or the famous spindle grille as found in the other F Sport variants. The grille is flanked by two LED headlights and the rear has an LED taillight that spans the entire length of the vehicle.
Its aluminum alloy wheels can either be finished in a monotone finish or a two-tone finish and come in 18-inch sizes.
- Interior
-
Regardless of the variant, you can expect the UX to come with a premium interior that uses leather and other soft-touch materials to create the quintessential Lexus experience but in a compact package. Ambient lighting can be found all throughout the cabin, and the model can also be fitted with either a black interior or a sporty red interior with the F Sport variant.
Also exclusive to the F Sport UX are the sport seats, and the Lexus LFA-inspired gauge cluster that is all-digital and multifunction. Standard models will come with standard dials and a TFT screen in the center. The seats are also electronically adjustable along with the steering wheel that tilts and telescopes with just a flip of a switch.
