Here is MG’s first EV offering for the Philippines, the MG4. Named Mulan for the Chinese market, the MG4 EV is a battery-electric five-door hatchback destined to make its mark on the global market. Built on the pure-electric Nebula platform, MG engineered the EV to be a nimble and agile machine despite carrying a heavy battery pack. The MG4 has a rear-motor, rear-wheel drive configuration. The standard range MG4 is claimed to be able to complete a zero to 100 sprint in just 7.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 170 km/h.
As for charging times, the Nebula platform allows the MG4 to be equipped with 400-volt charging technology. For vehicles featuring standard 400-volt charging technology, just five minutes of charging will provide sufficient power to cover a distance of 100 kilometers and approximately 30 minutes to reach an 80 percent charge level.
Launch
MG Philippines launched the MG4 EV on October 6, 2023. The five-door electric hatchback made its debut alongside the electrified Marvel compact crossover. MG brought out two variant options for the MG4, the Standard and Lux. The MG4 EV Standard came with a price tag of P1,468,888 while the Lux came with a launch price of P1,738,888.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The MG4 EV is built on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, also known as Nebula. This platform enables 400-volt charging on the MG4 EV. Three-phase AC charging is available for the MG4 EV Lux variant, allowing for faster charging times.
The five-door EV hatchback has a rear-motor, rear-wheel drive configuration thanks to its rear-wheel driver-focused platform. In terms of power, the MG4 EV Standard has 168 hp and 250 Nm of torque, packing a 51 kWh battery, this variant can reach a claimed NEDC range of up to 350 km. In addition, the MG4 EV Standard rides on 17-inch steel wheels wrapped in 215/50 size tires.
On the other hand, the MG4 EV Lux has a bigger battery capacity and more power. The Lux has 201 hp and 250 Nm of torque, the battery on this model has a 64 kWh capacity that can get it up to a claimed NEDC range of 435 km. The tires on the Lux are 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in wider 235/45 size tires.
All variants of the MG4 EV have MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension setup. All four wheels of the MG4 EV are equipped with disc brakes regardless of the variant.

Technology Features
The tech features of the MG4 EV start with the standard 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display. This system has Multimedia Play, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. As for driver aids, the MG4 EV has traction control, hill hold control, automatic emergency braking, vehicle dynamic control, lane keep assist, blind spot indicator system, cornering brake control, and a pedestrian warning system. The Lux variant has a reversing camera on top of the standard safety features.
Exterior
The MG4 is a five-door hatchback that is designed to look sporty and sharp. Viewed from the front, the hatchback features sharp, angular headlights that curve in relation to the creases found on the hood. What’s also sharp are the LED daytime running lights with black accents which flank the lower bumper, accentuating the headlights on top. Even lower is the MG4’s grille, since the hatchback is powered by electricity, the radiator doesn’t need a gaping radiator grille giving the MG4 a sleeker, and more angular front bumper.
The full length of the hatchback and the whole 2705 mm long wheelbase can be seen when taking a look at the MG4 EV’s sides. Unlike the front, there are fewer body lines to inspect at the side of the hatchback, featuring only simple straight-edged creases and a black body trim at the lower edges of the doors.
At the back, the sporty aesthetic continues with the appearance of a spoiler, sleek LED taillights, and a faux diffuser at the bumper. The spoiler of the MG4 EV is not one single part but rather two pieces separated in the middle. The taillights meanwhile have a unique boomerang-shaped design that wraps around the whole rear, meeting in the middle where the MG badge is displayed.
Interior
The interior of the MG4 EV exudes a contemporary and spacious ambiance, featuring a prominent wide-format touchscreen positioned at the top of the dashboard. Additionally, the rotary gear shifter is thoughtfully elevated on a center console shelf, designed with a clever cutaway beneath it, effectively creating ample storage room.
The trunk of the MG4 has around 360 liters of space, the rear seats can be folded down for extra space if needed. Speaking of the rear seats, the five-door hatchback can accommodate three passengers at the back, seatbelts and ISOFIX anchors can be found in their respective mounting points.
Safety
Regarding safety features, the MG4 EV is equipped with a suite of six airbags consisting of front, side, and curtain-mounted airbags. Active safety features include anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, cornering brake control, an electronic stability program, hill hold control, traction control, vehicle dynamic control, intelligent speed alert, lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, and autonomous emergency braking.
Rear parking sensors, speed-sensing door locks, ISOFIX mounts, adaptive cruise control, and engine immobilizer are standard across all variants of the MG4 EV. The MG4 EV Lux has a reversing camera in its equipment, a feature not fitted to the MG4 EV Standard.
