Team Mitsubishi Ralliart is eager to take on the 2024 Asia Cross Country Rally. This year, the team means business as it announced that it will field four all-new rally-spec Triton pickup trucks at the rally which will take place in southern and central Thailand.
If you remember, Mitsubishi Ralliart took third place overall in the 2023 AXCR which is why they’re gearing up more aggressively this year. Like the team's two previous outings in the AXCCR, Dakar Rally legend Hiroshi Masuoka will serve as the team’s director. Meanwhile, the lead driver is Chayapon Yotha of Thailand, who alongside co-driver Peerapong Sombutwong, secured the overall victory in AXCR 2022 with the older Triton Strada.
The rest of the team consists of the Japanese duo Katsuhiko Taguchi and Takahiro Yasui who are returning to the Triton after finishing 8th in their AXCR debut last year. The other Tritons will feature new driver pairings: Thailand's Sakchai Hantrakul with co-driver Jumpol Doungthip, and Mitsubishi Motors' test driver Kazuto Koide with co-driver Eiji Chiba from Japan. Both new pairings possess extensive knowledge of Mitsubishi vehicles and have achieved podium finishes in previous AXCR editions.
As for the trucks they’ll be racing in, this year’s entry will feature a new racing transmission with high torque capacity to enhance the Mitsubishi Triton’s durability and maneuverability. Additionally, the race truck’s suspension has been upgraded from rigid/leaf springs to rigid/four-link coil springs, enabling it to better absorb major bumps on rough roads and maintain traction on extremely uneven surfaces.
The team also says that equipment carried over from the 2023-spec Triton is being refined along with additional upgrades. This includes CUSCO adjustable front and rear twin dampers, carbon fiber front fenders, front and rear door panels, cargo outer panels, ENDLESS front and rear ventilated discs with 4-piston calipers, WORK aluminum wheels with Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 tires, and front and rear limited-slip differentials.
The 2024 Asia Cross Country Rally will take place from August 11 to 17. With this massive team putting in more than twice the amount of effort than last year, it’s exciting to see what kind of performance Mitsubishi Ralliart will show come race day.
