The GX3 Pro is the smallest crossover in Geely’s lineup in the Philippines. As Geely’s entry-level crossover, the GX3 slots below the Coolray in terms of size and is priced below the P1,000,000 price bracket making it the most accessible Geely car in terms of price.
The GX3 Pro is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine which pumps out 102 hp at 5,600 rpm and a peak torque of 142 Nm between 4,400 and 4,800 rpm. As for its suspension, the GX3 Pro is equipped with MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam setup at the rear. Braking power is provided by four disc brakes on all four wheels which is an impressive feature for its price.
The small crossover’s seats are upholstered in tough PVC material with red stitching reminiscent of its bigger brother the Coolray. Entertainment features include an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment complemented by two or six speakers depending on the variant. Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, a central locking system, and a reverse camera.
Launch
Sojitz G Auto Philippines, the official distributor of Geely vehicles in the Philippines launched the GX3 Pro on August 8, 2023. The GX3 Pro is positioned below the Coolray in terms of size and sits alongside the Emgrand as Geely’s vehicle offerings that are priced below the P1,000,000 price bracket. The GX3 Pro came into the Philippine market with a launch price of P778,000 for the S variant and P878,000 for the Comfort variant.
While the GX3 Pro does not replace the base Emgrand as the lowest-priced vehicle in Geely’s lineup, the top-spec GX3 Pro is considerably the most accessible car Geely offers. At launch, the GX3 Pro is offered in four color options, Red, White, Blue, and Grey.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Geely GX3 is a five-door compact crossover powered by a naturally-aspirated, 1.5-liter four-cylinder with Dual Overhead Cams (DOHC) and Dual Variable Valve Timing (DVVT). This engine generates a modest 102 hp at 5,600 rpm coupled with 142 Nm of torque with a powerband ranging from 4400 to 4800 rpm. Power is transmitted to the road via the front wheels through a choice of a five-speed manual gearbox or an eight-simulated-gear-ratio CVT. For a swifter acceleration experience, the CVT iteration is complemented by a Sport Mode feature.
Geely’s crossover rides on MacPherson struts up front and a Torsion Beam setup at the back. The GX3 Pro gets four disc brakes front and back along with anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, and brake assist.
Geely’s smallest crossover features an eight-inch infotainment screen with screen mirroring capability via CarbitLink with two or six speakers depending on the chosen variant. A rear-mounted camera comes standard making reversing a cakewalk for the crossover.
The GX3 Pro also comes with anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist. Combined with disc brakes on all four wheels and ISOFIX tethers, the GX3 provides a decent amount of safety features across the board.
Exterior
Measuring 4,005 mm long, 1,760 mm wide, and 1,575 mm tall the GX3 Pro is in line with most compact crossovers in the market today. At the front, the GX3 Pro showcases a notable frontal design characterized by a striking set of headlights and a chic grille, drawing inspiration from the Emgrand model. The front features LED daytime running lights, chrome embellishments adorning the grille, a rear bumper diffuser, an added touch of flair with a tailgate spoiler, and a distinctive set of LED taillights.
When viewed from the side, the GX3 Pro has a prominent silhouette with its high roof which flattens out by the hood. Thanks to its high roof and slightly flat rear tailgate, the GX3 Pro takes on the appearance of a tall hatchback rather than a small crossover fully showcasing its 185 mm ground clearance. Complementing the funky styling are 16-inch alloy wheels finished in a dark grey color.
Interior
Hop inside the GX3 Pro and you’ll be greeted by a familiar-looking interior. This is because the GX3 Pro takes its design from the Emgrand sedan. The outcome is a stylish interior, featuring a dual-gauge cluster accompanied by a 3.5-inch multi-information display, alongside an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The multimedia display provides support for AM/FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and the option for smartphone mirroring using the CarbitLink software. However, while not a dealbreaker, it lacks compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
