Jeep Gladiator Overview
The Jeep Gladiator is a midsize pickup truck built for adventure whether on the open road or on the dirt trails. The Gladiator is capable of hauling and heavy lifting while at the same time being able to tackle untamed environments. Coupled with its handsome looks, the Gladiator can go anywhere it desires but won’t look out of place on the road. Like the Wrangler it is based on, the Gladiator is in a class of its own. The Gladiator is built for customers that want the hauling capability of a pickup truck without losing the all-terrain ability of the Wrangler in a rugged but premium package.
In fact, like the Wrangler, the Gladiator can go full outdoorsman with removable doors. It was unleashed to the world at the Los Angeles Autoshow on November 28, 2018, and began its sale to the US and eventually to other parts of the world in 2019. It shares the same platform as the Wrangler and in the Philippines, it is powered by a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 gasoline motor with an 8-speed automatic that sends power to all four wheels.
- Launch
-
Launched to the international market back on November 28, 2018, the Jeep Gladiator made its way into the Philippine market two years later in July 2020. The pickup truck was initially available in two variants, namely the Rubicon and the Sport model with a starting price of P3,890,000. As it shares the same platform as its Jeep Wrangler counterpart, it was built from the ground up to provide real truck utility, functionality, and legendary Jeep capability to its nameplate. It was also made available with only one engine option: a 3.6-liter V6 that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Currently, the Gladiator is available in one lone variant, the Gladiator Overland.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
The Jeep Gladiator has a body-on-frame design and shares the same chassis and platform as the Wrangler JL making it a capable off-road vehicle on top of being a pickup truck. The Gladiator is naturally aspirated, powered by a 3.6-liter V6 motor that produces 285hp and 352 Nm of torque and is mated to an 8-speed transmission. The transmission is mated to a transfer case that has Jeep’s Selec-Trac full-time four-wheel drive system. The vehicle is also equipped with an anti-spin differential rear axle that works the same way as traditional e-lockers which prevent wheel spin and maintains traction in different terrain. The Gladiator Overland is supported by a leading-link suspension setup at the front and a trailing arm suspension at the rear. Like the Wrangler it shares its platform with, the Gladiator sits on a ladder frame chassis which is the favored type of frame for pickup trucks and offroaders. . The Gladiator Overland also comes with robust Dana brand M210 and M220 wide front and rear axles. Stopping power comes from Anti-Lock 4-Wheel FNC Disc HD Brakes.

- Exterior
-
On the outside, Jeep Gladiator comes with much of the same equipment as its Wrangler counterpart. The pickup truck comes with premium LED reflector lamps along with LED daytime running lights. The Overland variant of the Gladiator is equipped with 17-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in beefy BSW A/T Dueler tires. The silhouette of the Gladiator is that of a Jeep Wrangler with a trunk extension, but Jeep did a good job of keeping the trademark hunky stance and chisel-jawed looks of Jeep vehicles without making the entire vehicle awkward to look at because of the added length. Jeep also took the liberty of adding protection underneath by fitting skid plates for the transmission and the transfer case of the Gladiator.
- Interior
-
On the inside, the Jeep Gladiator’s interior panels are upholstered in fabric that can handle the rigors of off-roading along with an air conditioning system that comes with automatic temperature control.
