BMW M2 Overview
The BMW M2 is the hotter and spicier version of the BMW 2-Series of coupes. Built to be a fun driving machine for passionate drivers, the M2 may not be a record-breaking car like its bigger brother the M3 and M4, but it is still a capable car when the roads get twisty.
Like the standard 2-Series coupe on which it’s based the M2 features the usual suspects of BMW-made vehicle. Kidney grilles up front flanked by sleek headlights, sloping roofline, LED taillights, and well-defined body lines. For the M2, though, the design gets more radical. The BMW kidney grilles are now frameless and the lower grille is wider and more rectangular in shape. The whole car is wider than the standard version thanks to the addition of side skirts and flared wheel arches.
Powering the M2 is a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology. This beastly engine produces 460 hp and a mighty 550 Nm of torque. To enhance the auditory experience, an M-specific exhaust system, complete with electrically controlled flaps, provides a rich and emotive soundtrack to go along with the power. Additionally, the vehicle's oil and cooling systems have undergone meticulous fine-tuning to deliver peak performance on the track.
- Launch
-
BMW launched the M2 on September 14, 2023. BMW brought in two distinct variants of the M2, the M2 Pure and the M2 Carbon. The M2 Carbon differs from the Pure variant thanks to the addition of the M Driver’s Package. The M2 Pure has a launch price of P5,990,000, while the M2 Carbon has a price tag of P8,890,000. The M2 can be had in the following paint schemes, namely, Alpine White, Zandvoort Blue, M Brooklyn Gray, Black Sapphire, and M Toronto Red.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
The BMW M2’s beating heart is a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology. Capable of producing 460 hp and 550 Nm of torque, this tower of power is paired with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with BMW’s Drivelogic feature providing drivers with three shift modes. Power is transferred exclusively to the M2’s rear wheels via BMW’s M Active Differential. The Active M Differential also has the ability to shift all of the power to either the left or right-driven wheel depending on the amount of traction.
The 2nd generation M2 or the G87 which we have in the Philippines, is built on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. The CLAR platform incorporates the use of steel, aluminum, and even carbon fiber depending on the application. The suspension components in the M2 consist of MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link suspension for the rear. Coupled with Adaptive M suspension, the M2 is a car that can be set up for the road or for the track.
As for the wheels and brakes, the M2 sports 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the back. Meanwhile, the brakes consist of 370 mm diameter rotors at the back and 381 mm diameter rotors up front. The front brakes are fitted with six-piston calipers and M-compound brakes for consistent and powerful braking during multiple high-speed stops.

Tech features for the M2 start with the BMW Widescreen Display. This system comprises a 12.3-inch screen with a distinctive graphical interface tailored for the driver, accompanied by a 14.9-inch central screen that features the latest-generation BMW iDrive. The cabin is equipped with a three-zone climate control system, allowing for precise climate adjustments, while ambient lighting enhances the interior's atmosphere. In the M2 Carbon variant, you'll also enjoy the immersive audio experience of the Harman Kardon surround sound system.
Meanwhile, for the tech features meant to make you a faster and better driver, the BMW has the M-Drive Professional. The suite starts with the M Drift Analyzer which meticulously logs the drift's duration, distance traveled, and the precise line and angle it follows, displaying a performance rating on the control display. The M Laptimer is next, offering a detailed performance overview viewable on the instrument cluster. This feature not only keeps the driver informed about their current lap time but also allows them to continually gauge whether they are improving or falling behind their fastest lap from the current session.
- Exterior
-
The BMW M2 features an exterior design that epitomizes sportiness and aggression. With its compact and athletic stance, the M2 radiated an unmistakable aura of performance far from the subdued looks of the standard 2-Series coupe. At the front, the signature BMW kidney grille loses its chrome frame flanked by large air intakes in the bumper, which serve not only to boost its sporty looks but also for optimal airflow and cooling. The body's proportions, characterized by a short wheelbase and a wide track, emphasize its agile and dynamic nature. From the side, the M2 has side skirts and flared wheel arches that blend seamlessly with the body lines on the doors. Completing the package is a subtle but effective rear spoiler, enhancing aerodynamics and delivering a sporty finishing touch.
- Interior
-
The interior of the BMW M2 is a carefully curated blend of sportiness, luxury, and driver-centric design. Stepping inside, drivers are greeted by a driver-focused cockpit that reflects the car's high-performance nature. Premium materials, such as high-quality leather, carbon fiber accents, and aluminum trim, are used throughout the cabin, providing a sense of German sophistication and sporty elegance.
The sporty bucket seats are ergonomically designed, offering excellent support and comfort during intense driving. The M2 Pure features Sensatec and Alcantara upholstery while the M2 Carbon’s M-Carbon bucket seats are wrapped in Merino leather and built using lighter carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). The M-badged steering wheel is wrapped in leather and features prominent multifunction buttons, putting various controls at the driver's fingertips. Behind the wheel, the driver can find the configurable digital instrument cluster, which displays essential driving information and can be customized to suit individual preferences.
The center console houses the 14.9-inch infotainment system, featuring BMW's iDrive interface. It offers a range of connectivity options, including smartphone integration, navigation, and audio controls. The three-zone automatic climate control system ensures a comfortable cabin temperature for both driver and passenger.
- Safety
-
Aside from being a sporty, track-focused vehicle, the M2 is equipped with a slew of safety features. Passive safety features include dual front SRS airbags, side airbags, curtain-mounted head airbags, automatic door locks, and ISOFIX anchors. Active safety features include anti-lock brakes, a crash sensor, and dynamic stability control.
