Exhilaration intensified. That's the promise of the Lexus RC, the newest track star under the Japanese-American auotmaker's coupe lineup. Launched in the local market in late 2014, the RC and RC F feature some of what makes their sibling, the LFA, attractive to buyers. These include the signature spindle grille, the umistakable side profile, and the low and wide stance. The RC impresses with its street-ready looks, LED headlamps, and 18-inch tires. Meanwhile, the RC F sits wider, lowe, and longer than the RC—all while packing spirited performance. Under the hood, the Lexus RC features a 3.5-liter V6 engine delivering 312 hp and 380 Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to the RC's rear wheels. On the other side, the RC F comes equipped with a meatier 5.0-liter V8 power plant making 471 hp and 530 Nm of torque. It shifts with an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) automatic transmission. Launch
Lexus Manila launched the RC and RC F on November 18, 2014. The sports and performance coupe turned heads with signature styling, capable performance, and a luxury experience. Six years later in 2020, Lexus launched the updated RC F. It came with significant weight reduction, a touger chassis, new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and new LED lighting.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The Lexus RC is a compact executive coupe that rides on the Toyota New F platform. The two-door performance vehicle combines the front end of the GS, the midsection of the second-gen IS, and the rear of the third-gen IS. The suspension is composed of a push-rod operated double wishbone system with twin dampers, torsion bars, and springs. The base Lexus RC features a 3.5-liter, V6, 24-valve, DOCH, VVT-i gasoline engine that delivers 312 hp at 6,000 RPM and 380 Nm of torque at 4,800-4,900 RPM. Under the hood of the Lexus RC F is a larger 5.0-liter, V8, four-cam, 32-valve, DOHC, Dual VVT-i gasoline power plant that puts out 471 hp at 7,100 RPM and 530 Nm of torque at 4,800-5,600 RPM. Both versions are rear-wheel-drive and shift with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
On the tech side, the Lexus RC comes equpped with smart entry, push-to-start and eight-way power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats. It boasts a 10.3-inch Electro Multi-Vision Display with Bluetooth connectivity. It also features a 4.2-inch multi-information display for checking vital driving information at a glance. There are three selectable drive modes, including Eco, Normal, and Sport. The driver can switch to Sport mode to take advantage of the paddle shifters and gain more control. Lastly, cruise control, controllable on the steering wheel buttons, gives a layer of convenience for longer drives. The Lexus RC F takes all that and adds features like a parking assist system and a Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound system with 17 speakers.
Exterior
In true Lexus fashion, both the RC and RC F feature the premium brand's signature styling, including the spindle grille, highly sculpted body, and LED lighting. The high vibrance paint ensures a look like no other, while the illuminated door handles make it easy to locate the vehicle at night. As for wheels, you get 18-inch rims on the RC and 19-inch aluminum wheels on the RC F. The RC F also features bolder styling all around, with a domed hood, deeper spindle grille, flared fenders, and more that make it a more aggressive model.
Interior
Stepping inside the Lexus RC is a welcome to luxury. Its leather interior and Shimamoku ornamentation of alternating dark and light materials are unique, and the 60-40 rear seats are as versatile as they are functional. You also get the usual Lexus creature comforts, including a masterfully crafted analog clock, a leather wrapped steering wheel with button controls, and an Electro Multi-Vision Display with clear and crips picture quality.
Safety
For safety, Lexus equipped the RC and RC F with features like SRS side and knee front airbags and curtain shield airbags for the windows. Other standard safety features include crusice control ABS, brake assist, hill-start assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, child lock protection, clearance and reverse sensors, and a back guide monitor. The RC F takes things to the next level with eight SRS airbags and vehicle dynamics integrated management.
