Power, confidence, and charisma are the qualities that made the first generation of the Mustang legendary. Now in its 7th generation, these same qualities still course through the veins of Ford’s iconic pony car. The all-new Mustang from the Blue Oval brand now comes with subtle exterior changes, a refreshed interior, and two new variants. Although it has the same silhouette, the ‘Stang has a sharper set of headlights and a new layout for its front DRLs that are now integrated with the headlights. Inside, this coupe gets a refreshed cabin with new materials for its trims.
Of course, what's a Mustang without a big V8 under the hood? Although it's still a 5.0-liter like in the old 'Stang, the 4th gen Coyote V8 in the 7th gen Mustang is heavily revised with a new four-into-one exhaust manifold as well as a new intake manifold with dual 80 mm throttle bodies. The result of these upgrades is a heart-stopping 486 hp and 567 Nm of torque that comes with a distinct growl each time you press the gas pedal.
There’s also the 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost with a huge power output of 314 hp and 475 Nm of torque, thanks to its new twin-scroll turbocharger. These powerful mills are paired with a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.

Launch
The 6th gen Ford Mustang was launched in the year 2015 to the Philippine market. After a while, Ford unleashed the facelifted model to the country on April 5, 2018, at the Manila International Auto Show. The model came with several improvements over its predecessor, namely the active exhaust system, Magneride suspension, and the addition of a convertible model.
In 2024, Ford Philippines officially brought the 7th generation Mustang with the internal code S650 into the country. At launch, Ford Philippines offered the Mustang in two variants, the V8 powered GT Premium Fastback, and the four-cylinder EcoBoost Premium Fastback.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
The current-generation Mustang goes under the S650 internal code from Ford. Carrying over from its previous generation, the Mustang has a rear multi-link setup instead of the live-axle rear that was found in the S197 generation prior. The front suspension features a MacPherson strut, making all four corners of the coupe fully independent. Both GT and EcoBoost variants come with Brembo disc brakes which fit nicely in the 19-inch alloy wheels which come in a multi-spoke design for V8 GT and a split 10-spoke shape for the EcoBoost variant.
The engine options in the Ford Mustang include the 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine which produces 314 hp and 475 Nm of torque, quite potent on its own, but not as lauded as the 5.0 L Coyote V8 that produces 486 hp and 567 Nm of torque. All power mills produce enough torque to spin the rear wheels, and the 10-speed automatic transmission is new for the facelifted model and handles the power well.
Ford has equipped the Mustang with a 13-inch Sync 4 infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, and AUX connectivity options. Users can interface their smartphones with this particular unit as well through the use of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and audio is output to a 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen setup. Both the driver and front passenger seats feature power adjust controls and can either be heated or cooled. The new model features adaptive cruise control which allows the vehicle to brake autonomously when it senses an object in front of it. Perhaps the most notable inclusion in terms of tech is the 12-inch fully-digital gauge cluster that is connected with Ford's enhancements like the active exhaust and the Magne-ride suspension.
As for safety, both EcoBoost and V8 models are equipped with Ford Co-Pilot 360 technology. This array of features consists of equipment like Auto High Beam Headlights, a Blind Spot Information System, Lane Keeping System, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Evasive Steer Assist, Post Impact Braking, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control.
Exterior
For the S650 model Mustang, Ford did not stray away from the tried and tested Mustang silhouette. Changes you’ll spot from the 6th generation are the sharper headlights up front. We use the word sharper because instead of swooping lines from the S550, the S650’s headlights appear to be more cut and precise instead of flowing and curving.
Like the headlights, the upper and lower grilles are sharper as well, taking on a more geometric appearance than the soft curves of its past generation. Overall, the 7th generation Mustang still has its tough and aggressive looks, but it appears more modern and boxier in certain areas.
At the back, the Mustang’s wide hips are still there but with a bit more definition. As for the rear, here we’ll find the most radical change in the Mustang yet. The bumper has been given a distinct cut and crease that extends from each end of the rear bumper, giving the taillights a distinct dovetail appearance. At the lower part of the bumper sits a black plastic trim that houses the dual exhausts and what appears to be a rear diffuser.
Interior
The interior of the Ford Mustang incorporates a blend of leather, plastic, and metal elements. Soft-touch plastics envelop the cabin, while leather and metal accents adorn key touchpoints like switch hardware, the steering wheel, and armrests. The seats are upholstered in leather, providing a luxurious touch. Drawing inspiration from the model's heritage, the dashboard combines retro-inspired elements with modern design cues. Packed with an array of technology features, the cabin offers ample storage space for everyday items. The coupe features a 2+2 seating arrangement, with latches on the back of both the driver and passenger seats facilitating easy access to the rear area.
Safety
As one of Ford's flagship offerings, the Mustang boasts a comprehensive array of airbags aimed at safeguarding the driver in the event of an accident. A total of seven airbags are strategically positioned throughout the cabin to provide protection for both the driver and passengers. These include dual front, side, curtain, and a knee airbag specifically designed for the driver's safety. In addition to the airbag system, the Mustang is equipped with various other safety features such as Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 technology.
