Launch
The Honda Brio was officially launched in the Philippines on April 2019. After a hiatus away from the market, the nameplate made a strong comeback. The introduction brought interest back into the segment thanks to the sharp looks that captivated onlookers and prospective buyers.
During its initial release, the Brio was competitively priced, with the S MT variant available at P585,000, the V CVT at P646,000, the RS CVT at P727,000, and the RS Black Top CVT at P732,000. Honda offered these models at a special introductory price, which was adjusted a few months after the launch.
Four years after its initial launch, the Honda Brio was updated and formally introduced to the Philippine market alongside the updated City sedan. The update gave the Brio features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, rear parking sensors, and some minor adjustments to the interior trim and design, available across the entire lineup.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
Honda is using the G-CON body in the newest Brio, which ensures safety and performance. The small hatchback gets a slightly longer wheelbase which allows for more stability and space. Like its subcompact brothers, the Brio has MacPherson struts in the front and is complemented by a torsion beam in the rear.
The engine in question here is part of Honda’s L-series of engines. This is the same engine family that the Honda Jazz, City, and Civic RS take their motors from. The engine that powers the Brio is an L12 1.2-Liter SOHC i-VTEC engine that produces 89 hp and 110 Nm of torque. The engine sends the power through either a five-speed manual or an Earth Dreams CVT to the front wheels of the car.

Driving Performance
Honda is known for making vehicles with sharp handling that runs on a front-wheel-drivetrain. The Brio is a standout in this regard thanks to the small wheelbase and lightweight chassis. Thanks to the 1.2L i-VTEC engine paired with either a five-speed manual or Earth Dreams CVT, the Brio can achieve respectable fuel economy figures while being a respectable performer in the city and the highway.
Technology Features
In terms of equipment, all variants of the Brio are fitted with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which can be equipped with either four or six speakers. Starting from the 1.2 V variant and onwards, this compact hatchback is equipped with speed-sensing door locks, along with a set of power-folding side mirrors exclusive to the RS variant.
On July 2023, Honda Cars Philippines Inc. added a few more features to the Brio lineup for its mid-cycle update. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity has been added for all variants except for the S MT. Android Smartphone mirroring is available on all variants, however.
Exterior
The Mobilio RS is the Brio’s closest counterpart in terms of looks. When the MPV was launched, it was only a matter of time before Honda let out the updated Brio with an exterior that would follow the Mobilio RS’ striking looks.
The front is equipped with halogen reflector headlamps or LED headlamps with fog lamps depending on the trim level. The exciting H grille is proudly on display with the Honda emblem flanked by two wings. If you opt for the RS Design trim level, you trade the 14-inch steel or alloy wheels for two-tone 15-inch units that give the Brio some sporting appeal. Instead of chrome, you get piano gloss black in the grille along with the RS Design emblem to go along with it. At the back, you get a rear spoiler along with a rear diffuser for the rear bumper. This trim level gets you the most stylish Brio you can buy, but the interior wasn’t left out of the equation.
This hatchback is available in a range of neutral and colorful tones, five in total. Taffeta White, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, Rallye Red, Phoenix Orange Pearl, Electric Lime Metallic, and Stellar Diamond Pearl populate the selection, with Phoenix Orange Pearl and Electric Lime Pearl being RS Black Top exclusive colors. The RS Black Top option provides a different color to the roof of the hatchback, a glossy black to add contrast to the bright colors. The non-RS exclusive color is the Rallye Red, which is available for the V CVT variant.
Interior
Stepping inside the Brio is easy, thanks to the rather large doors and the ample seating space. Inside, it shares the same interior as the Mobilio and BR-V, which also take inspiration from the Jazz, City, and Civic. RS variants will enjoy red accents and an RS badge in the gauge cluster. Special seats will also be included in the RS Design package. These seats have red accents with an adjustable headrest, a feature that can’t be found in non-RS variants. For V variants and up, you get a seven-inch infotainment system with steering wheel media controls. The Brio comes standard with four speakers for all trims except for the RS, which has two extra tweeters for a total of six speakers.
When it comes to rear passenger space, there is no compromise here, as it aligns with the generous offerings found in Honda's subcompact range. The Brio fulfills its purpose by providing ample head and legroom that comfortably accommodates fully grown adults. However, it is worth noting that the only constraint lies in horizontal space, which could mean a tight squeeze when trying to fit three adults in the back.
Cargo space is ample for its class. Loading items into the back of the Brio is as easy as any other hatchback. Space here is at a bit of a premium, but Honda has given owners the option to fold the rear bench in order to access more space for bigger or longer items.
Safety
Buyers of this compact hatchback can find peace of mind in the Honda G-CON Body, driver, and front passenger airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), security alarm, and immobilizer, all of which are implemented to ensure safety in unexpected situations. Except for the security alarm, these features are present even in the base 1.2 S MT variant.
Although the current Honda Brio has not yet received an ASEAN NCAP rating, the previous model, which underwent testing in 2016, achieved a commendable four-star rating for adult occupancy protection. However, it received a lower rating of two stars for child occupancy protection.

Pros
+ Good fuel economy. Heavy traffic 8 kpl; light to medium 18 kpl.
+ Fast! (after i-VTEC kicks in) and stable at high speed!
+ Spacious for its size.
+ Air-conditioning is good.
+ Good stereo sound quality.
Cons
- Dead at low RPMs.
- Rev hang is there and it's annoying. This is a turn off.
- Steering wheel is not so compliant especially at fast turning rate.
- The radio volume control is on the passenger side. Too far to reach.
I'm very tall..6.3"-105kg and I fit no problem..And with the driver seat set for me I can still fit and not touch the roof or back of divers seat..Crazy room for a small car..It does well on the highway and in the mountains..It's a breeze to drive and park in the city..Love this little car..And it has enough toys for me
