Lexus RX Overview
The RX is Lexus’ famous crossover SUV. Since it was launched it has carried thousands of families with car-like refinement and luxury that no other crossover can offer. Additionally, the testament of Lexus unequalled reliability made owning a breeze through the years. Set to compete for the Philippine market, Filipinos should welcome the RX’s great striking appearance wearing the brands’ spindle grille. Enjoy the refinement and creature comforts with ergonomic leather seats for five adults and a luggage compartment that could be folded flat to give it more versatility. You can choose between gasoline or hybrid, with Drive Mode select functions – ECO to favor optimal efficiency, SPORT for the pulse pumping ride, and NORMAL for the balance of both. Powered by a 292-hp V6 with eight-speed sequential-shift transmission, the RX assures you that you have the power you need. Also, matched with Lexus Hybrid, it yields the best fuel economy possible. So take the urban jungle of the metropolis without anything to worry about the weather, the RX 350 is always at your side.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
The Lexus RX is built on a unibody chassis, and it is classified as a midsize crossover. There are up to two seating configurations that customers can choose from, ranging from a five-seater to a seven-seater. The larger of the two models is the Lexus RX 350 L, while the 450h, 350 F Sport, and standard variants will come with seating for five passengers.
Dimensions-wise, the RX comes in at 4,890mm long, 1,895 mm wide, 1,685 mm tall, and on a wheelbase of 2,790 mm long for the standard five-seater options. The bigger seven-seater variant of the RX measures 5,000 mm long, 1,895 mm wide, 1,700 mm tall, and on the same wheelbase as its five-seater iterations.
The RX features a fully-independent front and rear suspension with a MacPherson strut in the front and a double-wishbone setup in the rear. The RX rolls on a set of 20-inch wheels with different designs depending on the variant. Meanwhile, the model features disc brakes in the front and in the rear for all variants.
The powertrain found in the Lexus RX varies depending on the model. Lexus Philippines provides customers with either gasoline engines or a hybrid-electric powertrain as found in the 450h variants. The gasoline-only variants have a 3.5-liter V6 engine that makes 296 hp and 370 Nm of torque. Conversely, the 450h comes with a powertrain that is capable of 308 hp with both the gasoline and electric motor. The hybrid model comes with two electric motors, one in the front and another in the rear to help the vehicle save fuel and accelerate more efficiently.

The pre-facelift of the RX had quite a few modern features already, but Lexus turned things up a bit with more additions and refinements to the overall package that helps keep the RX competitive in a sea of ever-improving vehicles. For starters, the standard trim comes with an 8-inch Lexus Display Audio that gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto added in along with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Higher trims will get a 12.3-inch EMV touchscreen display with the Remote Touch Interface along with all the other connectivity features. The RX will get up to 12 speakers for its audio system in the top-of-the-line and premium trims.
Other standard features include a rear-view camera, a smart keyless system, cruise control, switches on the steering wheel, a power tailgate with hands-free opening, LED cornering lights, park assist, and a multifunction gauge cluster that varies depending on the powertrain, or an all-digital instrument panel for the F Sport variant.
- Exterior
-
Lexus' RX series is known for its good looks and its stellar exterior package which includes a full array of LED lights from its front to the rear. The headlights use the Bi-Beam technology that is shared between other models in the stable. The rear is also all-LED along with the turn signals. Speaking of the turn signals, the RX features sequential turn indicators that illuminate a row of LEDs.
The RX had undergone a facelift in recent years, and Lexus changed the standard variants' grilles with a more geometric and mesh-like pattern and updated the front bumper to give a sharper and more modern look for the crossover. For F Sport variants, the RX comes with Lexus' signature spindle grille that's shared with the other F Sport family of variants in the stable. On top of that, all RX models will come with a set of 20 inch wheels that will vary in design and finish.
- Interior
-
Stepping into the interior, you can expect premium leather seats for all variants, as well as a dashboard that's finished in a plethora of soft-touch materials that give occupants a premium feel. Ambient lights also enhance the driving and riding experience in the car, illuminating switches, surfaces, and other areas of the cabin that you otherwise wouldn't see. Select variants of the RX will come with a sunroof, that will allow natural light to come into the cabin.
Powered seats with memory functions are also available for the RX, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system is present to keep occupants comfortable. Depending on the variant you get, Lexus also provides a selection of gauge clusters that range from the standard two-dial tachometer and speedometer layout to the hybrid cluster, and finally to the all-digital F Sport-specific gauges.
- Safety
-
Up to seven airbags can be found in the RX which include the driver, front passenger, knee, side, and curtain sets that keep passengers safe in the event of a crash. As for active safety features, the RX comes with ABS with brake assist, electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), vehicle stability control (VSC), traction control, clearance and reverse sonars, a backup camera, and rain-sensing wipers.
