Mazda CX-90 Overview
Bold, powerful, and elegant, the CX-90 is Mazda’s latest flagship SUV. Sitting atop the Mazda lineup, the CX-90 is luxurious inside and out and packed to the brim with comfort features. Unveiled to the world in January 2030, the CX-90 replaces the CX-9 as Mazda’s premier seven-seater SUV and fills the role as the larger counterpart of the CX-60. Mazda’s goal in the creation of the CX-90 was for it to be the evolution and next-generation of the CX-9.
The powertrain of the CX-90 is the 3.3-liter e-SKYACTIV G in-line six-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a 48-volt Hybrid System and a 0.33 kWh lithium-ion battery. This tower of power can generate 280 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, transferring the power through all four wheels via Mazda’s SKYACTIV-DRIVE eight-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of features, the luxurious SUV has a 12.3-inch LCD display with Mazda Connect, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable seats for the driver and front passenger, and a full suite of passive and active safety features.

Mazda launched the CX-90 on September 22, 2023, a few months after the smaller CX-60 made its debut in the Philippine market. At launch, the CX-90 was available in two variants, the base variant AWD HEV Turbo and the top-of-the-line AWD HEV Turbo Exclusive. Both variants are equipped with a 48-volt hybrid system and a 0.33 kWh lithium-ion battery making the CX-90 a mild-hybrid crossover SUV.
Prices start at P3,680,000 for the AWD HEV Turbo and end at P3,780,000 for the AWD HEV Turbo Exclusive.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain

The CX-90 is built on Mazda’s Large Product Group Platform, a vehicle platform that can accommodate both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles. It shares the same underpinnings as the CX-60 which came before it. The other piece of equipment it shares with its smaller sibling is the turbocharged 3.3-liter e-SKYACTIV G straight-six engine and the eight-speed SKYACTIVE-Drive automatic transmission.
The CX-90’s mild-hybrid powertrain generates 280 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The power is transferred to all four wheels via Mazda’s i-ACTIV all-wheel drive system. Power is mostly sent to the rear wheels most of the time as the CX-90’s drivetrain is rear-biased.
Underneath, the CX-90 has a double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension setup which provides a smoother ride over rough road surfaces. Ventilated discs are equipped on all four wheels which are 21-inches in diameter. The large wheels are wrapped in 275 mm wide tires with an aspect ratio of 45 percent.

The CX-90 is equipped from top to bottom with tech features that enhance the driving experience, comfort, and safety of the SUV. Starting with the infotainment system, the CX-90 is equipped with a 12.3-inch LCD display with Mazda Connect and Dual USB-C, Bluetooth Hands-Free, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity. Audio is provided by a 12-speaker sound system developed by BOSE, promising to deliver crisp and clear audio wherever you are in the car. Automatic Dual-Zone climate control keeps the cabin nice and cool in the sweltering Philippine climate which has vents for the back for quick and even cooling.
Meanwhile, toys for the driver include a front windshield projected heads-up display, paddle shifters for more control, a 360-degree camera, and a convenient multi-control steering wheel.

In terms of its appearance, the CX-90 undeniably bears the unmistakable mark of Mazda's design. Its front fascia closely mirrors that of the CX-60, albeit with a slightly broader lower grille adorned with a chrome accent and sleeker side vents. Just like the CX-60, the CX-90 adheres to Mazda's "Kodo" design language, endowing it with a distinct overall aesthetic characterized by a fusion of crisp contours and graceful, sweeping curves. To complement this design, the CX-90 is fitted with imposing 21-inch wheels that not only accentuate its size but also enhance its presence on the road. In a game of top trumps in SUV design, the CX-90 can definitely hold its own against the competition. Especially when it is dressed in Mazda Artisan Red, a tint of red made specifically for the CX-90 to wear. The CX-90 maintains the theme of elegance and sophistication within its interior. Upon entering, occupants are embraced by plush Nappa leather upholstery, combined with other high-quality materials. Drawing inspiration from the interior design of its smaller counterpart, the CX-60, the CX-90 embraces a minimalist approach, featuring contrasting color schemes and tasteful metallic accents thoughtfully distributed throughout the cabin. Moreover, the CX-90 is equipped with a generous 12.3-inch infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster masterfully integrated into the dashboard.

Mazda places a huge emphasis on safety with its vehicles, and with the CX-90 being its new flagship SUV, the safety features are plenty and cutting-edge. For starters, the CX-90 has seven airbags as standard, two up front, two side airbags, two curtain airbags, and one airbag for the driver’s knee. Other features include an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, dynamic stability control, hill-descent control, a smart keyless entry system, front and rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX anchors.
Active safety features included in the i-ACTIVSENSE suite include Mazda Radar Cruise Control, lane departure warning, smart brake support with forward obstruction warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front cross-traffic alert, driver monitoring system, and a driver attention alert system.
