Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Overview
Considered the world's longest-running continuously produced sports car, the C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is here and it’s the very first Corvette to be laid out in a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive format. This means the iconic two-seat American coupe that's branded as one of America's best-selling sports cars can now trade blows with the cars over at Maranello and Germany. The Corvette badge first came out on January 17, 1953, in the form of the fiberglass-bodied two-seat car at the General Motors Motorama exposition in New York City. The 70-year-old coupe's arrival in the country buys Chevrolet Philippines and The Covenant Car Company Inc. a ticket to the tightly-competed exotic coupe segment. For the local market, the Corvette will be marketed as a one-variant model, which is the Stingray Coupe 3LT. The Corvette Stingray hides inside a 6.2-liter V8 engine with a maximum power output of 474 hp and 613 Nm of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission transmits power to the rear axles for that authentic sports car driving dynamics, with 19-inch and 20-inch wheels on the front and rear, respectively.

The Corvette C7 Stingray was launched in the Philippines on November 2018 at the brand's Motorama. The model went on sale in early 2019 with a launch price of P8,546,888.
In 2021, the serious and focused follow-up to the C7 came to the Philippines, the mid-engined Corvette C8. The C8 is the very first Corvette to feature a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive layout since its introduction in 1953. The C8 Corvette launched with an introductory price tag of P9,915,888.

The C8 Corvette, introduced in 2020, is the eighth generation of the iconic Chevrolet Corvette sports car. One of the most significant changes in this generation is the shift from a front-engine to a mid-engine layout, enhancing the car's performance and handling capabilities. The new mid-engine platform provides better weight distribution and balance, resulting in improved agility and cornering abilities. The Corvette’s front suspension features a short/long arm (SLA) double wishbone, forged aluminum upper, and cast aluminum L-shape lower control arms setup complemented by a direct-acting stabilizer bar in the rear.
The chassis of the C8 Corvette is constructed using a mix of lightweight materials, including aluminum, carbon fiber, and other composites, which contribute to its reduced weight and increased stiffness. This translates to better overall performance and enhanced structural rigidity. The C8 rides on the all-new Y2XX platform based on General Motors’ Y Platform used in previous generations of the Corvette.
Powering the C8 Corvette is a potent engine located behind the driver and passenger seats. The standard engine is a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, generating impressive horsepower and torque figures. Stopping power is provided by Brembo Performance four-piston disc brakes, which measure 321 mm at the front and 339 mm at the rear. This power is complemented and controlled by a limited-slip differential which locks to turn both rear wheels in unison for added traction whenever the system detects a change in traction.

The C8 Corvette is equipped with a range of modern technology features to enhance the driving experience and overall comfort. Some notable features include a large eight-inch central infotainment display with a user-friendly interface that provides access to various functions, including smartphone integration like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, and audio controls. Next up is a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a performance data recorder (PDR), a heads-up display, a vehicle health management system, smart keyless entry and start, and Chevrolet Connect capability.

The C8 Corvette boasts a striking and aggressive exterior design, an evolution of its already wild design thanks to its new mid-engine layout. The sleek and aerodynamic body lines not only enhance its visual appeal but also contribute to improved aerodynamic performance. The front end features a low-profile grille and sharp LED headlights, while the sculpted sides add to the car's dynamic appearance. The rear end is marked by quad taillights and a bold rear diffuser, further emphasizing its performance-oriented nature. Moving away from the previous generations closely knit quad-exhaust pipes are four exhaust pipes positioned at the sides of the C8.
These exterior design changes elevate the C8 Corvette from its barn-burning past to a more focused appearance. The Corvette always had the power and grunt to take on its competitors head-on but with the C8, the Corvette now has the determined looks of a proper sports car, more “racer”, and less “racy”.

Inside, the C8 Corvette offers a driver-focused cabin with a mix of premium materials and sporty accents. The cockpit is ergonomically designed to enhance the driver's control and connection with the vehicle. High-quality leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim, and metallic accents create a luxurious atmosphere.
The center console is slightly elevated, housing the gear shifter and various control buttons, providing a modern and intuitive layout. The flat-bottomed steering wheel and well-bolstered seats add to the sporty feel of the interior, providing extra support when drivers take it out on the track where it belongs.
