Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Overview
The long-awaited five-door Jimny is finally available here in the Philippines. It’s still the capable compact off-roader that people love and adore but now in a longer and more practical configuration.
Equipped with the same powertrain as the three-door Jimny, this five-door version can still take on tough terrain off-road, but it now has some added space to make it practical for when you’re simply driving in the metro.

The Jimny Five-door made its debut in India in January 2023, five years after the first fourth-generation Jimny rolled off the production line. In the Philippines, the Jimny made its official debut on our shores on January 25, 2024.

Beating inside the Jimny five-door is the same 1.5-liter K15B engine delivering 100 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque you find inside the three-door version. Suzuki offers a choice between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission. The GL trim provides options for both a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic, while the GLX exclusively features a four-speed automatic.
Designed to be taken off the beaten path, the Suzuki Jimny's chassis and suspension cater to rugged terrains. The tiny 4x4 off-roader features dual pairs of three-link rigid axles with coil springs for both front and rear suspension. Due to the addition of two more doors, the Jimny has gained a bit of weight sitting at 1,195 kg, with the highest trim level reaching 1,210 kg.

Inside, all the kit you find inside the three-door Jimny can still be found here. At the center sits a nine-inch multimedia infotainment system, doubling as the hub for the backup camera and clinometer. This system offers connectivity via USB, Bluetooth, and iPod connections.
The GLX variant of the Jimny boasts additional features, including automatic LED headlights with a manual leveler, cruise control, automatic air conditioning with a pollen filter, and a rear camera paired with parking sensors.

At the front, the 2019 Jimny reveals a thoroughly revamped exterior, this is apparent when compared with its 20-year-old predecessor. The updated aesthetic highlights a flatter fascia in contrast to its predecessor. While the grille retains its vertical slats reminiscent of the previous model, Suzuki resurrected the round headlights reminiscent of its earliest designs. In essence, this new model embraces a boxier body, departing from the slightly curvier form of the third-generation iteration.
The front end offers a choice between reflector halogen headlights with foglights or a set of LED projector headlamps. These retro-looking lights are embedded in a distinctive grille that imparts character to the vehicle. Wide fender flares enhance the SUV's presence, adding a sense of dimensionality to its initially narrow profile. Positioned at the bottom part of the rear bumper, the rear taillights contribute to a utilitarian aesthetic, giving the Jimny a rugged and nostalgic look.

Inside, the Jimny’s interior is also modernized through a series of well-deserved upgrades. The in-cabin plastics boast a considerable improvement, along with a revamped dashboard design. To enhance both convenience and safety, audio controls are now conveniently placed on the redesigned steering wheel. Despite these updates, the seats maintain a fabric finish, proving advantageous in securing passengers during off-road excursions by offering superior grip compared to leather, perfect for when you’re traversing the trails.

Like the three-door version, the five-door Jimny is equipped with dual front airbags, driver and passenger seatbelt reminders, and ISOFIX tethers as standard safety features. It also incorporates side-impact door beams for crash protection. Additionally, the car offers driver-assist features such as hill hold control, hill descent control, ABS with brake assist, and stability control. Reverse parking sensors are standard across the Jimny range while the GLX variant steps it up further with the addition of a reverse camera.
